Japan life insurer to invest in Vietnam real estate

Dai-i-chi Life Insurance Company Vietnam will increase its capital and invest in Vietnamese real estate, said a senior official from the Japanese company Thursday.

Dai-i-chi’s chairman Tomijiro Morita told Thanh Nien Daily that the company has accrued a large premium since establishing itself in Vietnam last January.

“We want to use the premium to invest in other areas in the country,” said Morita.

He added the company was eyeing the securities and real estate sectors which are thriving in Vietnam.

The chairman expressed his interest in such industries during a meeting in which the insurer donated US$20,000 to the Vietnamese charity fund, “For The Poor.” The aid organization is operated by HCMC Fatherland Front unit.

The company will also set up a fund management company in light of investment-linked insurance products.

Dai-i-chi, Japan’s second largest life insurance company, manages total assets of more than $290 billion in funds from approximately 8.5 million customers.
